Richard played in the musical rich, singer/songwriter atmosphere at the club's around Texas A&M University during the late 1970's and early 1980's, which spawned the careers of Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen.
In Southwestern Virginia, where he now lives, he has played regularly throughout the region including, Natural Tunnel State Park's 'Lighting of the Tunnel' and Candlelight Series', Southwest Virginia State Park's 'Lunch on the Lawn', Duffield Daze, Home Craft Days, The Trail of the Lonesome Pine (Virginia's State Play), and many other venues.
He has recorded seven studio full length Cds (four of these are currently available from CD Baby) and you can also follow him on Spotify. Richard also teaches at the Mountain Music School hosted each summer by Mountain Empire Community College.
He currently performs and records with Richard Phillips and Friends which includes Tommy Clements, Bill Smith, and Roger Bullock.
